David Lloyd George, the Welsh statesman who later became 1st Earl Lloyd-George of Dwyfor, is the subject of this portrait, and the caption card gives only his name and life dates, 1863 to 1945. He rose from a small-town solicitor's practice in Wales to lead Britain as prime minister during the final years of the First World War, from 1916 to 1922. Known for his oratory and his social reform measures, he remains one of the most recognizable political figures of his era. The print itself carries no date, so its exact making is uncertain.
