A postcard of William McKinley, the 25th president, was sold as a souvenir of a photograph taken by Frances Benjamin Johnston in 1901, the year McKinley was assassinated. The card's title says the national memorial statue to him was modeled from this same picture, which links a commercial keepsake to a monument built in his honor. Johnston's photograph was reproduced as a halftone for the card, and its 1907 copyright date marks the years when such cards were popular with the public.
