Fencing and a crown set this poster apart from the other theater bills on the board, and they point to *The Royal Family*, a 1927 comedy by Edna Ferber and George S. Kaufman about a famous family of stage actors. The Federal theater Project, a branch of the Works Progress Administration, put theater workers back on the job during the Depression, and this bill announces the project's opening play at the Waterloo Theater in 1936. Silkscreen suited such work because it let the project print bold, flat colors in quantity on inexpensive board. The stamp on the back shows the print passed through the Des Moines office of the WPA.
