The record gives this portrait as Weldon Wyckoff of the Philadelphia Athletics, but a caption card names Herb Pennock, so the sitter's identity is unsettled. Either way, the picture shows a player from Connie Mack's Athletics, the American League club that won pennants in 1910, 1911, 1913, and 1914. The print comes from the George Grantham Bain Collection, a body of New York news photographs from the early twentieth century now held by the Library of Congress. Its 1913 date, based on later committee research, places it during one of the strongest seasons of Mack's team.
