Bright Angel Trail, which zigzags down the canyon wall from the South Rim, is the subject of this view, issued by the Detroit Publishing Co. around 1908. By then the trail was a popular route for visitors who wanted to go below the rim, and the Santa Fe Railway and the Fred Harvey Company were steadily bringing tourists to the canyon. The Detroit firm was one of the largest makers of scenic views of the American West at the time, and its images helped shape how the public pictured places like this. The date comes from a caption card and has not been independently verified.
