Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, appears in this long panoramic view of its waterfront, with piers and wharves reaching out from the shore. The Detroit Publishing Company, which produced many American town and landscape views around 1900, issued it as a cyanotype mounted on linen. By then Bay St. Louis was a seaside resort on the Mississippi Sound that could be reached by rail from New Orleans, so the scene shows a working shoreline that also served holiday visitors.
