Few posters from this period feature a reporter's hunger for a story as bluntly as this one. Kirk Douglas and Jan Sterling top the bill for Billy Wilder's 1951 Paramount film, which the studio also marketed as *The Big Carnival* in some releases. The story follows a disgraced big-city newspaperman who stalls the rescue of a man trapped in a New Mexico cave so he can turn the disaster into a national sensation. Wilder's cynical portrait of the press and the crowds that gather around tragedy was not a popular success on release, but it is now widely regarded as one of his sharpest films.
