This view looks down Maiden Lane toward Albany's City Hall, a Romanesque Revival building that was completed around 1883, the date given for this print. The picture was reproduced as an albertype, a photomechanical process that produced continuous-tone images, and the copyright line credits Witteman Bros. of New York City as its publisher. Albany's City Hall was designed by Henry Hobson Richardson, whose heavy stonework and rounded arches shaped many civic buildings of the period.
