Tucked into the upper level of the Yeni Cami, or New Mosque, on the Golden Horn, this view looks at the imperial gallery, the enclosed loge where the sultan worshipped apart from the public below. The photograph shows its ornate grilles and tiled walls, features that reflect the mosque's 17th-century construction under the patronage of the Valide Sultan Turhan Hatice. The studio of Abdullah Frères, a firm of court photographers in Istanbul, made the print, which is one of many views in an album from the collection of Sultan Abdul-Hamid II.
