Michigan's automobile plants were already shifting toward military orders in 1941, and this silkscreen poster speaks directly to the skilled workers those factories needed. Its plain call to register now reflects the national defense hiring drive of the period, when employment offices worked to fill jobs before the United States entered the war. The poster was produced under the Federal Art Project of the Works Progress Administration, whose silkscreen unit made inexpensive public notices for display in shops, union halls and post offices.
