A dedication to President Woodrow Wilson, printed across the bottom of this 1918 color lithograph, sets it apart from other wartime tributes. It honors American servicemen who gave their lives "for right & liberty" and calls Wilson a "herald of true democracy & world peace." The poster reflects the home-front mood of 1918, when the nation was mourning its war dead and Wilson was framing the war as a fight for democracy. The lithograph's six signatures, reproduced by a mechanical process, were a common way for printed tributes of the period to look personally endorsed.
