A harmonica band from Philadelphia, photographed on July 2, 1929, is the subject of this glass negative. The National Photo Company, a commercial studio that documented cities and events across the United States in the early twentieth century, made the image, and its title came from notes written on the negative or its sleeve, so the details are not independently verified. Harmonica bands were a popular form of neighborhood music in that era, often performing at parades, picnics, and civic gatherings. The glass plate also shows streaks and small blemishes from the gradual breakdown of its original coating, which are part of the object's physical history.
