Taken from the water, this view places the Hotel Champlain at Bluff Point on Lake Champlain, with the steamboat Ticonderoga on the lake, a reminder that many guests arrived by boat. Bluff Point, on the New York shore near Plattsburgh, drew summer visitors in the early 1900s, when lake steamers carried travelers between towns along the water. The Detroit Publishing Company, which produced large-format views like this for travel promotion, made the 8 x 10 inch glass negative between 1900 and 1915, when resort hotels were at the height of their popularity.
