Wilcox Point, a cape on the Vermont shore of Lake Champlain, is the subject of this view, made on an 8 by 10 inch glass dry plate negative between about 1900 and 1905. The Detroit Publishing Company sent photographers across the country to record scenery, resorts and towns, and its large-format plates captured landscapes like this one in fine detail. Lake Champlain, which forms part of the boundary between Vermont and New York, drew summer travelers by steamboat during this period, and views of its shores reflected the growing appeal of lake country as a destination.
