Advertising a biscuit called Amandines de Provence, this color lithograph names the H. Lalo firm and the artist Leonetto Cappiello, who was then becoming one of Paris's leading poster designers. Printed in 1900, the sheet is large, about 140 by 100 centimeters, and was built for street hoardings, where bold outlines and flat areas of color had to catch the eye of passersby. Sweets and snacks were a common subject for French advertisers of the 1890s and 1900s, and the poster shows how commercial art was becoming a regular part of city life.
