Little is known about this portrait beyond the name on its caption card, "Werner Horn," which the Library of Congress lists as unverified data supplied by the Bain News Service. The image survives as a glass negative, a format the Bain agency used widely in the early 1900s for quick studio and news work before film became standard. Because the record gives no date or setting, the sitter's identity and the occasion remain open, and the negative is best read as one surviving trace of the agency's large working archive in New York.
