Little is recorded about this glass negative beyond its title, "Lorlys E. Rogers," which the Bain News Service wrote on its caption cards and which the Library of Congress notes has not been independently verified. The name alone does not tell us who the sitter was or what occasion prompted the picture. The negative belongs to the George Grantham Bain Collection, made by a New York news photography agency that supplied pictures of people, events and places to newspapers in the early twentieth century. Its glass plates, many of them small, offer a useful window onto the newspaper photography of that period.
