The only identifying detail for this negative is the name David Slade, which the Bain News Service recorded on its caption card, and the library notes that the title has not been verified. Bain News Service was a New York picture agency that George Grantham Bain founded around 1900 to supply newspapers with news photographs, portraits and event coverage into the 1920s. Its glass negatives, now held by the Library of Congress, offer a dense record of American public life in the early twentieth century, though a sitter's identity often needs checking against other sources.
