Few early military aviators held as much responsibility as Gen. Sir David Henderson, whose name is attached to this glass negative from the Bain News Service. Henderson led the Royal Flying Corps from its formation in 1912 and later became Britain's first Director-General of Military Aeronautics in 1917, shaping how aircraft were used for reconnaissance and training. The record gives the identification as unverified, so the sitter should be treated with some caution, though the Bain collection as a whole holds press pictures of prominent figures from the early twentieth century.
