The Paul Revere House stands on North Square in Boston's North End, and it is generally regarded as the oldest surviving building in downtown Boston, dating to around 1680. Revere, the silversmith and patriot best known for his ride on April 18, 1775, lived there during the years when Boston was moving toward open conflict with Britain. The house is now part of Boston National Historical Park, where its timber frame, narrow rooms and period furnishings give visitors a sense of colonial-era domestic life. Its survival through centuries of urban change is much of what makes the site worth a visit.
