Dated August 3, 1923, this glass negative carries the title "Harihara at White House," a label the National Photo Company wrote on the negative sleeve that the Library of Congress notes has not been verified. The date falls the day after President Warren G. Harding died in San Francisco on August 2, while returning from a trip west, so the White House was in a somber period as the nation awaited Vice President Calvin Coolidge's swearing-in. The glass may show streaks and blemishes from deterioration of its original coatings, a common trait of negatives from this era.
