The lobby of the James Madison Memorial Building, shown here in a perspective view, belongs to the Library of Congress's third major building on Capitol Hill. The Madison Building opened in 1980 on Independence Avenue, across from the Jefferson and Adams buildings, and its expansive public spaces were designed to handle the growing collections and visitors. This image is a photographic print of an architectural drawing, a presentation view meant to show how the finished interior would look before construction. It is part of the Alfred Easton Poor Papers, which preserve the working records of an architect connected with the project.
