The organ in this view is at the church in Péronne, a town on the Somme in northern France. The catalog title calls it a cathedral, but that label comes from unverified caption data, and Péronne's main church is a parish church. Péronne was largely destroyed during the First World War, when the Somme battles of 1916 and the fighting that followed reduced much of the town to rubble. The Bain News Service, a New York photo agency, sent photographers and distributed pictures of European sites to newspapers, so views like this one often reflect postwar interest in the damaged towns of northern France.
