Desdemona, a boom field in Eastland County, Texas, drew crowds of drillers and speculators after oil came in there in 1918. This panoramic print, roughly eight by sixty-four inches, was made by Fort Worth photographer Homer T. Harden around 1919 and shows a long line of oil wells across the field. Harden registered the picture for copyright that November, which helps date it and makes it a useful document of how densely the wells were packed during the boom. The wide format suits the subject, since a standard print could not easily show how many rigs crowded the land.
