Charles Dana Gibson designed this color poster to promote the April 1895 issue of *Scribner's Magazine*, the New York monthly published by Charles Scribner's Sons. Gibson was then establishing himself as a magazine illustrator, and the crisp lines and elegant women he drew in the 1890s would soon be known as the Gibson Girl. The poster carries the same polished style readers expected inside the magazine's pages, which makes it a useful window onto how publishers sold both fiction and fashion in that period.
