March marks the wind's turn in this 1938 color silkscreen, where the subjects listed in its record are winds, storms, and trees. It belongs to a calendar series issued in the late 1930s, when the Works Progress Administration's Federal Art Project used the silkscreen process to make inexpensive posters and calendars for public buildings and schools. Christopher DeNoon's 1987 study *Posters of the WPA* catalogs this work, which shows how federal artists turned everyday seasonal themes into bold, flat shapes of color. The print is a useful record of how the WPA treated the calendar as a form of public art.
