In 1905, the Yale-Harvard football game drew crowds from across New England and beyond, and it was one of the sporting events that New Englanders followed most closely. Harvard had opened its concrete horseshoe stadium in Allston in 1903, and large gatherings for the rivalry had become a regular fixture of autumn.
