Ask yourself squarely whether you are justified in turning a deaf ear to them" is the question this lithograph puts to its reader, with no illustration to soften it. Printed in color by Alex. Thom & Co. of Abbey Street in Dublin, the text alone carries the appeal. Recruiting in Ireland during the war leaned heavily on loyalty and comradeship, especially after John Redmond's 1914 call for volunteers to serve. The record dates the sheet to 1916, a year of heavy Irish losses at the Somme, which gave such appeals particular urgency.
