The Columbian Building is the subject of this view, a Washington office block photographed in the years around 1919 or 1920. The title comes from data the National Photo Company wrote on the negative or its sleeve, and the photographer's commercial firm was known for documenting the capital's buildings and streets for postcards and sales. The dating rests on neighboring negatives in the same run. The glass has streaks and blemishes from the coating breaking down over time, which are visible in the image and are part of its physical history.
