Taken from the tennis courts, this view looks back toward the house at 1624 Crescent Place in Washington, D.C., so the grounds and the residence appear together in one frame. The home belonged to Agnes Meyer, a writer, critic and patron of the arts, who was married to financier Eugene Meyer, later publisher of The Washington Post. Made by the Washington firm Stowell sometime between 1934 and 1950, the photograph records how a prominent Washington household presented its private grounds in those years.
