The *Hendrick Hudson* was one of the day-line steamers that carried passengers up the Hudson River from Manhattan, a route that drew city residents to riverside resorts, parks and towns for a day's outing. The Hudson River Day Line, which ran these boats, was a familiar part of New York summers for much of the twentieth century, and its white-hulled steamers were among the best-known passenger vessels on the East Coast. The record dates the print to about 1944, a period when wartime travel and crowded city life gave river excursions an added appeal. Steamboat views like this one are useful for seeing how these large paddle-and-screw passenger ships looked on the water during their heyday.
