Titled *The watchers of the seas*, this 1915 color lithograph frames the Royal Navy's work as a constant vigil over Britain's coasts while calling for boys and men aged 15 to 40. Printed in London by Johnson Riddle Co., it gives 7 Whitehall Place as the address for applications, which marks it as a direct appeal to volunteers. In 1915 Britain still depended on voluntary enlistment, since conscription did not begin until 1916, and recruiting posters like this one competed for men across the armed services.
