Old Faithful Inn stands beside the geyser that gives it its name, and this view shows the hotel as it was when it was known as the Colonial Hotel, a title the building carried in its early years. Yellowstone's first great hotel was built in 1903-1904 by the Yellowstone Park Association, and its rustic log-and-timber design was meant to blend with the surrounding forest rather than compete with it. Old Faithful erupts on a fairly predictable schedule, which is why the inn was placed so close to it, giving guests a front-row seat for the eruptions.
