This poster's title sets its message: "September--Back to work ... back to school back to books." It shows boys in Chicago reading, and it presents the end of summer as a return to study, with books as the focus. The Federal Art Project, part of the Works Progress Administration, sponsored the work, and it was printed as a silkscreen, a method the project's poster unit used to make inexpensive public notices and advertisements in the 1930s. The record also notes a date stamp of August 30, 1940, on the back, which shows the sheet was still in circulation after its 1936 creation.
