This silkscreen poster advertises a Chicago Public Library curb service, which promised "10000 current books" delivered at the curb as a free, time-saving alternative to a trip inside a branch. The Federal Art Project produced it under the Works Progress Administration (WPA) in the Depression years, when the agency commissioned posters to publicize public services and reached a wide audience with bold flat color. The poster's appeal lies in its message of convenience: a library visit could happen from the sidewalk, without leaving a neighborhood or spending money. Its later date stamp of March 1941 shows it stayed in circulation for several years.
