Mrs. Thomas A. Edison, born Mina Miller, was the second wife of the inventor, whom she married in 1886 and who died in 1931. This glass negative comes from the George Grantham Bain Collection, a body of news photographs made by the Bain News Service in New York, which supplied pictures to newspapers in the early twentieth century. The record gives no date, and the title is taken from caption cards that the service's own data may not have verified, so the sitter's identity is worth reading with that caveat in mind. Portraits of Edison's family were often circulated to the press as his public profile grew, which gives this image its value as a record of how the household was presented to the public.
