A team portrait of the St. Louis Browns, the American League club that shared Sportsman's Park with the Cardinals for decades, this 1942 print was made by the photographer Dorrill and copyrighted by The Sporting News, the baseball weekly long based in St. Louis. It dates to the early years of World War II, when many major league rosters were thinned as players entered military service. The Browns reached their only World Series in 1944, so this group shot captures the team a couple of seasons before that brief run of success.
