The Post-Dispatch building in St. Louis is pictured here as one of the city's most recognizable newspaper homes of the 1920s, when the paper was a major voice in Missouri journalism. Joseph Pulitzer had built the Post-Dispatch into a powerful daily after acquiring it in 1878, and his bequest later funded the Pulitzer Prizes. The photograph records a commercial structure tied to the rise of mass-circulation newspapers, an industry that shaped how the city read about itself in that decade.
