Here the sculptor Daniel Chester French and the architect Henry Bacon stand together before the seated figure of Lincoln, the statue French designed for the memorial in Washington. The Piccirilli Brothers carved the figure from white Georgia marble, and it was installed in the memorial's central chamber in 1920. The building was dedicated in May 1922, which is the year the catalog suggests for this photograph, though the exact date is uncertain. The halftone process indicates the image was reproduced for printing, a common way photographs of the period reached newspapers and magazines.
