Lincoln stands at full length, facing right, with one arm raised as he holds what appears to be a flag rope, a pose that fits the patriotic taste of the early 1900s. The copyright credit goes to the Gerlach-Barklow Co. of Joliet, Illinois, a firm that produced commercial color prints, so this was likely a mass-produced reproduction meant for homes and offices. Lincoln had been dead for more than forty years by then, and his image circulated widely as a symbol of national unity. The print is worth noticing for how it pairs a historical figure with flag imagery during the decade before the United States entered World War I.
