This poster puts a seaside spectacle at the center of a circus advertisement: a water carnival at Coney Island, with log-rollers working the water. The Barnum & Bailey show was known for elaborate promotion, and this color chromolithograph was printed by the Strobridge Lithographing Company, a Cincinnati and New York firm that produced vivid posters for display on billboards and walls. Coney Island, on the Brooklyn shore, was then a popular resort of rides, sideshows and crowds. The c1898 date comes from an unverified caption card, so treat it as approximate.
