Titled "On the Heights," this view points to an elevated vantage over Yosemite Valley and its granite walls. It comes from the portfolio *Parmelian Prints of the High Sierras*, issued around 1927, which presented the Sierra Nevada as a subject for serious photographic art rather than only travel snapshots. The portfolio is linked to the early career of Ansel Adams, whose Yosemite work from this period helped make the valley a defining image in American photography. The gelatin silver process used here was the standard for fine prints of the era, prized for its subtle tonal range.
