Lead with what sets this card apart: it shows the Sentinel Hotel in Yosemite Valley, with the view turned north toward Yosemite Falls rather than the cliffs usually pictured. The Sentinel, opened in the 1880s, was one of the valley's main lodgings, and by the early 1900s it drew visitors arriving by stagecoach over the mountain roads. Underwood & Underwood, a New York firm, issued stereo cards like this one for parlor viewers, so the image was meant to carry the valley's scenery into American homes. The playful title, "Amidst Yosemite's charms," reflects the tourist tone of that trade.
