Camp life in Yosemite Valley is the focus here, with Yosemite Falls named in the title as the landmark that drew visitors to this stretch of the valley. The picture is a stereograph, one of a pair of nearly identical views that a viewer would look at through a hand-held stereoscope to see depth. Underwood & Underwood, a New York firm, produced large numbers of these cards around 1902, and many showed tourists at famous sites. Such views helped set the image of Yosemite as a place where ordinary travelers could go camping and see the valley for themselves.
