Camp Curry, the tent camp David and Jennie Curry opened in Yosemite Valley in 1899, is the focus here, and the caption places this view at a spot it calls Le Conte Circle. The Detroit Publishing Company sold views of American resorts and scenery to tourists in the early 1900s, and the caption's subject tracings, which include swimming pools, camping, and tourists, suggest how visitors spent their time there. The date is given only as a range, between 1898 and 1914, and the record notes that its data is unverified. Camp Curry became a summer fixture for valley travelers, so the picture offers a useful glimpse of that visitor life.
