Few spots in Yosemite Valley were busier with arriving visitors than Camp Curry, the tent camp David and Jennie Curry opened in 1899, and this view centers on a stage at the camp. Stagecoaches were a main way many travelers reached the valley before automobiles became common. The photograph comes from the Detroit Publishing Company, a commercial firm that produced and sold views of American scenery and tourist destinations.
