A color lithograph poster from 1917 that speaks directly to the soldier, telling him the camp library is his to use: free, open every day, and without red tape. It was produced for the Library War Service of the American Library Association, a wartime effort that stocked recreation halls and other points in army camps with popular books for enlisted men. The poster's pitch, that good reading would help a man advance, reflects the period's belief that education and leisure could strengthen morale and build skills during the long months of training before the United States entered the trenches in Europe.
