Cars rolling past the grandstand set this view apart from other fair photographs. It shows the first annual fair of the Richmond County Agricultural Society, a farm group on Staten Island. Around 1905, when automobiles were still a novelty on country roads, fairs often staged motor races to draw crowds, and the caption files this picture under automobile racing. The print carries a copyright credit to A. Loeffler of Tompkinsville, but the caption data is old and unverified, so the exact event and date should be read with that in mind.
