Paul Whiteman, who led one of the most popular dance orchestras of the 1920s and was nicknamed the "King of Jazz," is the figure named in this picture's title, set against a parade labeled "K.T." That abbreviation most likely refers to the Knights Templar, a Masonic order whose members staged large, showy public processions in American cities in the early twentieth century. The New York-based Bain News Service made the negative, but the title came from unverified caption data, so the exact occasion and date remain uncertain.
