The title links this view to Paul Whiteman, the bandleader who became one of the most popular musicians of the 1920s and was nicknamed the "King of Jazz," so the musician, not the crowd, is the starting point. "K.T." most likely refers to the Knights Templar, a Masonic order whose uniformed processions with bands were a familiar sight in American cities in the early twentieth century. The Bain News Service, a New York photo agency, made the glass negative, but the title comes from caption cards that have not been independently verified, so the exact occasion and date remain uncertain.
